FCM Travel Solutions’ communications manager Amy Maynard recently stayed at the Carlton Hotel Singapore and experienced one of the hotel’s Premier Club suites in their new premier wing.
Tell us about the property in general
Centrally located in Singapore’s Downtown Core, the Carlton Singapore Hotel is in a prime position for those travelling for business as well as those wanting to explore all Singapore offers.
From the minute I walked into the hotel foyer, I felt welcome and instantly relaxed. Staff members were extremely friendly, helpful and ensured a fast and no-fuss check in for a very jetlagged traveller! I was thrilled to be upgraded to one of the hotel’s Premier Club suites in their premier wing which opened in 2010.
What was your room like?
The room was very spacious, impeccably clean and well furnished with modern furniture as well as ample storage. The bed – a King Sealy Posturepedic – was extremely comfortable and dressed with beautiful quality linen.
The large bay window filled the room with natural light and offered an incredible view of Marina Bay, the harbour and Singapore’s Downtown Core. For light sleepers, sunlight and Singapore’s bright city lights can easily be blocked with quality blackout curtains to ensure an uninterrupted sleep.
The room was well equipped to work from with a large desk and comfortable office chair as well as tea and coffee facilities including a Nespresso machine.
What was the bathroom like?
The bathroom was a standout feature of the room. Beautifully finished in marble and glass, it featured a rainfall shower and bath positioned against a glass wall which opened up the room. High quality toiletries by The White Company and Molton Brown London were provided as well as a range of essentials – toothbrush, razor and shower cap, to name a few.
What other facilities were there?
As well as fast WiFi, the room was equipped with a smartphone that provides unlimited 3G mobile internet, local and international calls to selected countries. This is a great feature for travellers to take advantage of to reduce costs.
The hotel features an indoor gym and outdoor pool which is open during the day and night. LifeSpa is also located on Level 4 and 5 of the hotel and offers traditional and contemporary spa treatments to guests.
Did you enjoy the food?
I did not get an opportunity to dine at the hotel’s restaurants during my stay, however room service was great quality and extremely prompt. I grabbed a bite to eat and coffee at Tuxedo Café & Patisserie, located conveniently on the ground floor of the hotel and was impressed. At the time of visiting, Tuxedo offered hotel guests 50% off bread and pastries and 30% off cakes from 7pm, so be sure to check their special offers online.
Who would you recommend this property for?
The Carlton Hotel Singapore is perfect for both business and leisure travellers. Its position in Singapore’s Downtown Core is close to the CBD region and Marina Bay, and only 20 minutes from Changi International Airport.
Any eating or entertainment nearby that travellers might want to visit?
If you need supplies or would like to dine close by, Raffles City Shopping Centre is conveniently located across the road from the hotel and opens from 10am – 10pm daily. Bugis Street and Bugis Junction Mall are also just a short 10 minute walk away and a great place to visit in the evening to experience a vibrant night-time market.
If you’re in the mood for serious shopping, Orchard Road – Asia’s most famous shopping street – is just a quick MRT (subway) or taxi ride away.
For local eats, there are many Hawker Centres close by serving up traditional Singapore cuisine. Also worth a visit and directly opposite the hotel is Chijmes – a former convent school which is now filled with cafes, restaurants and bars to suit all tastes.
What's your overall rating out of five and any final comments?
This 5-star hotel deserves a 5 out of 5 rating. My stay was perfect and I look forward to returning and experiencing more of what the Carlton Hotel Singapore can offer.
